Clique Publique – Screen-printed Bags by NC State Alumna
The Raleigh-based N.C. State graduate has come up with a line of screen-printed canvas handbags, with a title “Clique Publique” with an aim to offer handbags to women which will stand out in their wardrobes.
According to Stevens “A statement piece can offer a real boost even to a basic outfit” and she wants to create a line of handbags to make others experience the same excitement which she experienced when she found such a statement piece.
Stevens lived and worked in Amsterdam for ten years and has recently returned to the Triangle. Upon her return to her home in North Carolina, she noticed the smooth revival of the textile industry here through the support of home-based designers committed to using locally sourced fabric, which she is proud of. She says, “We want to strengthen the US economy and North Carolina having a great textile history, it’s great to be a part of it.”
The bags of Stevens feature colorful screen-printed geometric patterns painted by her.
She says, “The design process for these bags began with a paintbrush, a jar of India ink and watercolor paper; I started doodling and repeating lines and basic shapes till I had a range of workable prints.”
