5 Great Tips to Make Your Handbags Last for a Long, Long Time
A lovely designer handbag is an accessory that every fashion-loving woman wants and it adds that special color to her persona that she desires the most. No wonder, women love to splurge on handbags and make a collection of them. However, as we take care of our clothing, we need to take care of these pricey handbags too to enjoy wearing them for years. Here are a few tips on how to keep your dear handbags like new for years to come.
1. Protecting the Material
It’s important to protect the material of your handbags from dirt and spills to make them look new and shiny always. Apply high-quality leather-protecting products to the handbags with a clean cotton cloth and buff with a dry cotton cloth just afterwards. Take care of using the products regularly on bags that you use heavily. However, take care of using any product on a small patch of the bag first to test and make sure it doesn’t damage your bag.
2. Proper Storage
Do you just toss your bags haphazardly at the bottom of your wardrobe? If you do, that’s not the right way to make them last longer. If you store them properly, only then they will be with you for longer. Here is a fantastic solution of storing totes and other handbags in the form of a new Tote Hanger.
New York based Handbag Designer Jacki Easlick has created this new Tote Hanger. These topnotch hooks are especially engineered to hang your handbags with elegance and balance. You can get them at the Container Stores and they are also sold at www.ToteHanger.com!
3. Remove Stains
Stains that are not removed right at the moment when they happen can become stubborn and make your bag look old and unsightly. Therefore they should be removed as soon as possible. But for that you should first consider what type of stain it is. Here are some solutions for different types of stains.
Crush white chalk and let it settle on the stain overnight. Rub with a clean cloth in the morning.
Apply cornstarch on the stain right away and rub it hard to generate heat from friction which will absorb the oil. Then with a clean cloth, brush it off. Don’t let the powder settle on the stain.
If you notice it immediately after it happens, erase it at once with a white eraser. Don’t apply too much pressure to avoid the color coming off. If the stain is not fresh and ink has already settled, you will have to take it to a professional. An eraser can also be used to remove dirt stains.
Fill a plastic bag with baking soda and keep it inside your handbag and zip the handbag. If it doesn’t zip, keep it in a larger bag. Let the baking soda be inside the bag for a day or two and it will absorb the odor. Another option is to keep a dryer sheet or two in the bag for some days.
Protecting the Lining
It’s also important to protect the inner side of the bag to make it look like new always. Keep your cosmetics inside pouches to protect the handbag lining from spills. Also avoid keeping click pens inside the bag. Either use pens with caps or keep them too in a pouch.
Keeping Metal Hardware Shiny
Avoid the metal hardware from coming in contact with jewelry or other such items to prevent scratches. You can remove tarnish and grime from the hardware with specialized products.
Also take care to clean your handbags regularly, storing them properly with a great option like the Tote Hanger and take them to a professional when needed, and you can enjoy having these beautiful accessories for a long, long time.
